9 police officers were killed in a Sudanese refugee camp in Ethiopia
A source from the Central Committee for Sudanese Refugees in the Amhara region in Ethiopia reported that unidentified armed forces attacked the “Komer” camp for Sudanese refugees, during the early hours of Wednesday morning, and killed 9 police forces.
The camp, which is located in the aforementioned region, witnessed violent clashes between unknown armed forces and the Ethiopian Federal Police, which resulted in the killing of 9 police officers and the wounding of 4 others. The unknown forces kidnapped the rest of the police officers and took them to an unknown location.
Since June 10, 2023, Camp Comer has witnessed many incidents and violations against refugees, which have been documented by the international community and all humanitarian organizations and human rights bodies.
Sudanese refugee camps are often subject to attacks by “bandits and militias,” as the Ethiopian government fights the Fano armed group in the Amhara region, without providing them with protection.
According to the Central Committee for Sudanese Refugees in the Amhara Region, Sudanese refugees in the aforementioned camp live in poor conditions and suffer from a lack of protection, which requires urgent intervention by the international community to save their lives. They also suffer from a severe lack of health care and the spread of preventable diseases.
Since mid-April 2023, the Sudanese army, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the Rapid Support Forces, led by Muhammad Hamdan Dagalo (Hemedti), have been waging a war that has left about 15,000 dead and about 10 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations.
