About 8 million children have diabetes in the Sudan

The President of the Sudan Children’s Diabetes Association, Prof. Mohamed Ahmed Abdullah, revealed that the number of children with diabetes in the Sudan was more than 8 million.

At the observance of World Children’s Diabetes Day on the theme: “The importance of education and education for diabetes care”, which is celebrated on November 14 each year, he said that the Sudan Society for Child Diabetes had reached out to a number of global bodies to provide treatment and had access to free insulin, free tapes and laboratory tapes.

The association established a “30” diabetes clinic throughout the Sudan with free treatment.

Abdullah noted the high cost of diabetes treatment and noted that a children’s diabetes centre was built in Khartoum 2 and opened in November 2018 and has all specialized clinics including fine specialties.

He revealed efforts to develop the center and provide all modern technologies in the Sudan and the need to travel outside the country.

Diabetes treatment was available in the Sudan and trained personnel were also available.

In the same context, the President of the Association’s Youth Bureau, Aye Youssef Qurchi, said that the Office sought to remove stigma about people with diabetes through educational workshops and cultural programmes for children, targeting schools with diabetic students and disseminating awareness among students and teachers.

For its part, the Association’s Media Coordinator, Ms. Linda Absher, explained that the celebration was an attempt to draw the attention of Sudanese society to the issue of diabetes children and their needs and needs, which needed the attention of society and the Government represented in the Ministry of Health.

She noted the important role played by the media in reaching out to and sensitizing as many people as possible and correcting perceptions of diabetes, noting that the Society provided health and psychosocial care for children and free services for the diabetes child.

The Sudanese Society for Child Diabetes was established in 2003 with the objective of providing integrated world-class services for children of diabetes in the Sudan.
