A Spanish cyclist died after a 24-year coma
Spanish reports shed light on the death of cyclist Raul Garcia Alvarez, after he had been in a coma for 24 years, as a result of a tragic accident during a local cycling race.
The newspaper “Marca” (MARCA) said that Alvarez was about 18 years old when he was involved in the accident while participating in a local cycling race that was held in the capital, Madrid, on August 20, 1998.
Alvarez participated in only two stages of the race that was passing through the mountains of Madrid, where he fell in the second round while he was traveling at a speed of 80 kilometers per hour from a 5-meter-high bridge, which caused a severe head injury, chest bruises and a leg wound, to be transported directly to intensive care in the hospital.
The doctors’ report was very shocking given the very serious head injury, which caused him to enter a coma immediately after he fell from the bridge, prompting his family to take him home for his “long” care in the best possible way.
According to the newspaper, each of his parents and older siblings took care of him with care and attention on his bed, which did not leave him for nearly 24 years from the serious injury he suffered, until his death at the age of 42.
