EU sends two letters to Sudan
The representative of the European Union’s foreign policy, Josep Borrell, said that the international community was pressing the parties to the conflict in the Sudan to stop the war, announcing that he had conveyed a message to army commanders and his Rapid Forces.
“The international community as a whole is pressing the parties to the armed conflict in the Sudan to stop this war.” Borrell, speaking with reporters before the European Foreign Affairs Council kicked off on Monday, said he had reached out to all neighbouring countries and friends, as well as generals Abdel Fattah al-Burhan and Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, who are leading the fighting forces in the Sudan. “
“The message of the international community is the same: you have to stop the war, silence the guns, start dialogue and seek a political solution because there is no military solution to this war,” Borrell said.
Asked whether the evacuation of European diplomats demonstrated misfortune on the ground and that the Sudan was on the brink of civil war, Borrell said: “We have evacuated our staff because they are in the midst of a war and some have been injured. it is impossible to continue to serve as diplomats under these circumstances, so the best thing to do is to remove them from the Sudan “.
However, Borrell asserted that the head of the European Union mission, Aidan O’Hara, “stayed there, and he will be the last one to leave.”
Several countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Germany, Canada, Italy, Spain, Saudi Arabia, Jordan, Egypt and others, evacuated their diplomats and nationals from the Sudanese capital as the fighting entered its second week.
