United Nations responses to the situation in Sudan
United Nations envoy Volker Berts stated that they were seeking to de-escalate tensions and end violence in the Sudan in coordination with international partners. He also stressed that there was no plan or reflection on his departure from the Sudan.
In a related context, United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Gurterich said that the conflict in the Sudan could extend to the entire region, requiring that everything be done to keep the Sudan away from the brink.
The United Nations issued a statement stating that some 700 of its staff, international non-governmental organizations and embassy staff had arrived in Port Sudan for evacuation to neighbouring countries.
