Biden issues an executive order imposing sanctions on “destabilizing” Sudanese individuals

Today, Thursday, the US White House announced that President Joe Biden had signed an executive order authorizing the imposition of sanctions on individuals who “destabilize” Sudan.

This comes as fighting between the army and the Rapid Support Forces has gone on for the twentieth day in a row despite seven cease-fires that have been declared by both sides.

In a message to Congress, Vice President Joe Biden stated that the situation in Sudan poses a particularly serious threat to national security and US foreign policy, calling the violence there “a tragedy and a betrayal of the Sudanese people’s clear demand for a civilian government and a transition to democracy.”

He said, “The situation in Sudan, including the army’s seizure of power in 2021 and the current outbreak of fighting, threatens our national security”

He urged the combatants to put down their weapons.

“The bloodshed that started during the month of Ramadan and claimed the lives of hundreds of civilians must end.”

” I participate in advocating for an ongoing truce between the warring parties with other peace-loving Sudanese and world leaders.”
