World Urban Forum: Al-Burhan presents Sudan’s speech
Al-Burhan’s speech – Monday evening – before the ” World Urban Forum” in its 12th edition, hosted by the Egyptian capital, Cairo , which is held under the slogan “Everything starts locally – let’s work together for sustainable cities and communities.”
The Chairman of the Sudanese Transitional Sovereignty Council, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, affirmed his country’s insistence, “people and army”, on “preserving the Sudanese state and its institutions” and confronting the plans targeting the existence of the Sudanese people and their state, expressing his optimism about the imminent end of the war and the start of reconstruction.
In his speech, Al-Burhan denounced what he described as “violations” by the terrorist Rapid Support Forces militias against the Sudanese people, considering it “a war targeting their existence, their state, their civilization, their infrastructure, and their gains that have always been in the service of Sudan’s brothers and a bridge for cooperation, communication, construction, transfer, and exchange of benefits.”
Under Burhan’s leadership, the Sudanese army waging a war since mid-April 2023 against the Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemeti), who was deputy chairman of the Sovereignty Council before the dispute erupted between the two leaders.
The war has resulted in more than 20,000 deaths and more than 11 million displaced and refugees, according to the United Nations, while international and UN calls are increasing to end the war in order to spare Sudan a humanitarian catastrophe that has begun to push millions to famine and death due to food shortages due to the fighting that has spread to 13 of the country’s 18 states.
