AOAD co-signed the Zero Hunger Initiative
The Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) participated in the signing ceremony of a statement (Zero Hunger Initiative in the Arab Region on the Need to Deal Quickly with Emerging Food Security Challenges in the Arab Region) recently organized by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.
In his statement at the signing ceremony, the Secretary-General of the Arab League, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, reviewed the problems and challenges faced by the Arab region and the entire world since the start of the coronavirus pandemic, followed by the war of Ukraine and Russia and their implications for the economy, trade, agriculture and food security.
This has hampered food supply chains, increased food prices, increased inflation and the effects of these factors on Arab countries, as well as the climatic impacts on productivity and agriculture. This has called for enhanced cooperation between all international organizations and government agencies to deal with all the crises facing the Arab region.
At the end of the ceremony, the “Zero Hunger” initiative document was signed by representatives of participating bodies and organizations. Dr. Kamel Mustafa Al-Sayed signed the document on behalf of Professor Ibrahim Al-Dakhiri, Director-General of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development.
The signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League, representatives of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development, ESCWA, IFAD, the Arab Centre for Drylands and Arid Zones Studies, FAO in the Near East and North Africa, the Arab Organization for Nature Protection, the Network of Regional Food Banks and the Arab Water Council.
