Al-Burhan addresses the Arab Summit and calls for overcoming regional and international challenges

The President of the Transitional Sovereign Council, General Abdelfattah Al-Burhan, stressed during his address to the Arab Summit at the thirty-first session hosted by Algeria that international variables, climate volatility and other crises, notably the global food crisis, require Arab leaders to plan science in accordance with the joint action approach that takes into account the nation’s needs to overcome these crises.

He reaffirmed Sudan’s commitment to the Arab Food Security Initiative and said that the Sudan was open to Governments and the Arab business sector. We hope that this summit will adopt resolutions urging Arab League organizations, States and Governments to support the self-sufficiency project of the Arab nation in grain and food.

The President of the Sovereign Council called on the leaders to support the consolidation of peace, stability and development in the Sudan in this exceptional transitional phase.

Affirming full commitment to provide the right climate for national dialogue, supporting initiatives by political and community forces and encouraging tripartite efforts to facilitate dialogue between the parties to reach an agreement that would pave the way for the formation of a government of civil competencies that would manage the remainder of the transition period and lead to free and fair elections by the end of the transition period.

With regard to the Juba Peace Agreement for the Sudan, he said that it had contributed to stability and security in large parts of the country and that the Government and the peace parties had a sincere will to realize the great challenges facing the implementation of that agreement.

His sovereignty enumerated the positive role of the Sudan in supporting peace and stability in the Arab world through its regional role during its current chairmanship of IGAD and in supporting stability in the countries of the region, along with combating terrorism, transit crimes and human trafficking in the Sahel, Sahara and Red Sea region.

The President of the Sovereign Council appealed to the Libyan parties for dialogue in order to reach a constitutional rule that would restore the situation and called on the parties in Yemen to resume dialogue for a political settlement in accordance with the Gulf initiative and relevant Security Council resolutions.

The President of the Sovereign Council declared the Sudan’s firm and principled position on the Palestinian question and on ending the Israeli occupation and the establishment of a Palestinian State with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

He congratulated the Algerian President and people on the anniversary of the glorious Algerian revolution.
