Assistant US Secretary of State: We support efforts to achieve reconciliation in Western Darfur
The United States Assistant Secretary of State for African Affairs, Ms. Molly Vii, announced her support and encouragement for the efforts led by the Vice-President of the Sovereign Council, Lieutenant General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, and members of the Council, Dr. El Hadi Idriss and Al Taher Hajar, to hold reconciliation among tribal components in Darfur, and assist in the voluntary return of displaced persons.
“I encouraged the initiative of Darfur leaders in Western Darfur to support local reconciliation, voluntary return of displaced persons, increased state protection and mobilization of resources to assist victims of conflict,” she said in a tweet on the official page of the Office of African Affairs on Twitter.
Describing the graduation of the security forces as an important step to protect civilians, Molly said “we stand with the people of Darfur and are committed to helping them achieve sustainable peace and participate fully in the democratic transition in the Sudan”.
