Al-Burhan issues a decision to absorb 23 defected officers from the Rapid Support Forces into the army
In a statement issued by Sudanese army, On Monday, the head of the Sovereignty Council in Sudan, Army Commander Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, issued a decision to “absorb 23 defected officers from the Rapid Support Forces into the Sudanese army.”
“The head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council and the Commander-in-Chief of the Army, Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, decided to absorb those who report (about his defection) from the Rapid Support Forces into the ranks of the armed forces,” the statement said.
“The decision stipulates the absorption of 23 officers who have reached military ranks, ranging from the rank of colonel to the rank of lieutenant,” the statement added.
He pointed out that “the date of their assimilation into the army should be from the date of their notification of their defection.”
Since mid-April, the army and the “rapid support” have been engaged in clashes that a series of armistices did not succeed in stopping. these clashes left more than 3,000 dead, most of them civilians, and about 3 million displaced persons and refugees inside and outside the country, according to the United Nations.
