Al-Burhan Sudan is one of the countries most affected by climate variables
Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council, said that Sudan is one of the countries most affected by climate variables.
This has led to waves of displacement and internal population mobility, causing resource disputes between communities affected by these changes.
In his address to the Conference on Climate Change, COP27 in Sharm el-Sheikh City, Al-Burhan noted the impact of Sudan’s vital and productive sectors of agriculture, water, health and food security.
The traditional rainy agricultural sector had dwindled considerably because of climate changes, and two thirds of the population depended on it for food.
The degradation of natural rangelands had led to frictions between stable and mobile societies, as well as the loss of biodiversity within forests and nature reserves, which had led to waves of displacement and migration and their effects on the environment.
