Defection topples within the Movement Leads to the Ousting of Finance Minister
The Sudanese Justice and Equality Movement announced the end of the term of its leader, Gibril Ibrahim, and the election of Suleiman Sandal Hakkar as the new leader during an extraordinary conference held in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia on Wednesday.
This decision came after prominent leaders within the movement accused Gibril of obstructing attempts to elect a new leader for the past three years. The decision was made after Gibril dismissed Sandal, the head of security arrangements, Ahmed Tugud, the head of negotiations, and other members of the executive office.
The decision to remove Gibril from his position was made following a meeting between the ousted members and the second-in-command of the Rapid Support Forces, Abdulrahim Daglo, in Ingemina. Sandal denied this accusation.
