Governor of the Darfur region
The governor of North Darfur state warned of the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in the state, explaining that the remaining food stocks are sufficient for only 3 weeks.
“The situation is deteriorating, and the remaining food stock is sufficient for only 3 weeks, as a result of the depletion of the strategic stock of food and the absence of an international response,” the state governor said.
The governor stressed that the local authorities are unable to contain the crisis any more, and appealed to the United Nations agencies working in the humanitarian field to expedite the provision of aid to those affected.
He called on the governor of North Darfur state to stop the fighting (between the army and the Rapid Support Forces), and work to open the airports of the Darfur region to receive international humanitarian aid.
Since mid-April, the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces have been engaged in clashes in several cities, leaving more than 3,000 dead, most of them civilians, and about 3 million displaced persons and refugees inside and outside the country, according to the United Nations.
