Qatar chairs the session of the Second Committee of the United Nations General
Assembly concerned with economic and financial affairs, having previously been elected as Vice-President of the Second Committee for the Asian and Pacific Group of States due to its role in strengthening the global partnership for achieving sustainable development Qatar chaired, on Saturday, the working session of the Second Committee on Economic and Financial Affairs of the United Nations General Assembly at its 77th session.
According to the official Qatar News Agency, Doha was represented by Sheikh Abdul Rahman bin Abdulaziz Al Thani, third secretary in the country’s permanent delegation to the United Nations.
The Committee is concerned with issues related to economic growth, financing for development, sustainable development, human settlements, globalization, interdependence, poverty eradication, agricultural development, food security and information and communication technologies for development, leading to the establishment of global partnerships. According to the agency, “The Committee considered the reports submitted by the Secretary-General of the United NationsAntonio Guterres”.
Among these reports are “Progress made in implementing and following up on the outcomes of the World Summit on the Information Society at the regional and international levels”, “Towards establishing a new international economic order”, “Fulfilling the promise of globalization: promoting sustainable development in an interconnected world”, and finally his report on “International Migration” and development”.
Doha is looking forward to “hosting the work of the second part of the Fifth United Nations Conference on the Least Developed Countries, between 5 and 9 March 2023, to support these countries’ march towards achieving sustainable and comprehensive development for the next ten years, according to what the official news agency revealed.” The agency stated that Qatar had been elected as a vice-chairman of the Second Committee of the Asian and Pacific Group of States.
The election of Qatar came due to its role in strengthening the global partnership for achieving sustainable development, its efforts in the field of development, working with partners and multilateral organizations, and providing the necessary resources and financing, according to the agency.
