Rapid support commits a new crime and victims arrive in Uganda
Rido, working to monitor and document violations against women in Southern Darfur, revealed new cases of rape committed by RSF soldiers against 56 girls.
The 16-day campaign against gender-based violence began from November 25 to December 10.
The Director of Rideau, Ms. Selma Jun, said in a press release that RSF elements raped 56 girl among them 5 underage girls, three male children and one death. ”
Ms. Selma stressed that there were serious challenges facing women in Southern Darfur, including many cases of rape and violations as a result of non-Arab tribes’ membership, as well as service providers’ suffering from access to survivors due to the disruption of telecommunications and Internet networks as well as lack of funding.
Most of the rapists arrived in Uganda for treatment and indicated that they faced the problem of finding a specialized psychological support site in addition to the lack of psychiatrists in Kampala.
The Director of the Unit for Combating Violence against Women and Children, Salimi Isaac, said last September that the number of girls who had been raped and sexually abused since the start of fighting between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces had risen to some 136 cases.
In a statement last Sunday on the occasion of the 16-day campaign against gender-based violence, the Unit noted the synchronization of the campaign with the dire war in the Sudan and its catastrophic humanitarian impact on civilians, in particular conflict-related sexual violence crimes documented by the Unit and its partners in various parts of the country.
