The President of the Sovereign Council meets with the Executive Secretary of the International Conference of the Great Lakes
The President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, met at his office in the presence of the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Mr. Ali al-Sadik, Executive Secretary of the International Conference for the Great Lakes Region, Mr. Jawao Samuel, and his accompanying delegation at the conclusion of his visit to the country.
The President of the Sovereign Council gave the visiting delegation a full explanation of the country’s ongoing political developments, during which he reaffirmed the completion of the requirements of the transition period, leading to free and fair elections by its end, and that the armed forces would not participate in the political negotiations that should take place in the country to allow civilian political forces to agree on the formation of a civilian transitional government.
The meeting also discussed preparations for Sudan’s assumption of the presidency of the conference at the end of this year.
In a press statement, the Executive Secretary of the International Conference of the Great Lakes Region, Ambassador Jawao Samuel, affirmed their support for the efforts to achieve stability and political consensus in the Sudan and to cooperate with the Government of the Sudan in various aspects.
The delegation had submitted to the President of the Sovereign Council a report on the objectives of his visit to the Sudan, which had focused mainly on consultations with officials from the Ministries of Defence, Foreign Affairs and Finance, Minerals and the leaders of the Sudan’s General Intelligence Service.
Jawao said that their visit to the Sudan had achieved its objectives, during which a road map was agreed on on arrangements for the Sudan to preside over the international conference of the Great Lakes Region in the coming period.
