The President of the Sovereignty Council heads to the UK to participate in the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II
The head of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, headed this morning to the British capital, London, to participate in the funeral ceremony of Queen Elizabeth II.
He was seen off at Khartoum Airport by Lieutenant General Shams El-Din Kabbashi, a member of the Sovereign Council.
Sudan’s participation in this occasion comes in fulfillment and appreciation of the late queen’s stances towards Sudan and her unlimited support for its causes. This was evident during her famous visit to Sudan, in the year 1965. In which the Sudanese exchanged feelings of cordiality, appreciation and respect.
This was evident through the celebrations and the warm reception and official and popular welcome that she found during her visit to Sudan 57 years ago. The Sudanese recalled from their memory the archive of her visit again. In response to the news of her departure, they widely circulated among themselves photos and videos of the historic visit during which the late queen toured many cities and regions in Sudan, expressing their deep sadness at her departure.
Sudan’s participation in this sad occasion also comes in recognition of the strong ties linking Sudan with the United Kingdom. Where the two countries have close relations rooted in the depth of history.
During the visit, the President of the Sovereignty Council will offer condolences and sympathy to the Sudanese government and people, on the Queen’s departure, to the royal family and the British people.
The President of the Sovereignty Council is accompanied, on his visit to the United Kingdom, by the Foreign Minister-designate, Ambassador Ali Al-Sadiq.
