UN official: We receive reports of the RSF executing dozens in Darfur
Alice Wairimu Nderitu, the United Nations Special Adviser on the Prevention of Genocide, expressed concern about the continuing levels of identity-based violence in a number of states and regions in Sudan.
Nderito said that she had received reports that the Rapid Support Forces and their allied militias had executed dozens and wounded others in Masteri (West Darfur).
She was particularly disturbed by the exploitation of sectarian and ethnic conflicts rooted in longstanding grievances by armed groups, including the Janjaweed.
She added that in light of the current situation – which she described as very worrying and deteriorating – it is imperative that the international community use all available tools to prevent any further escalation.
