Under-Secretary for Foreign Affairs receives the Acting Regional Director of UNDP
The Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs received Ambassador Dafallah Hajj Ali at his office, Ms. Sarah Paul, Acting Regional Director of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) for Arab States.
During the meeting, Mr. Al-Wakil expressed the appreciation of the Government and people of the Sudan for the important role played by UNDP in the Sudan and for the good coordination and fruitful cooperation between the Sudan and UNDP, one of the most important United Nations agencies.
Mr. Al-Awwal also provided information on developments in the country’s political situation, noting that efforts were being made to achieve national consensus leading to the formation of a civilian government to manage the transition period until the election stage.
The meeting also touched upon a number of areas in which UNDP could contribute through development projects in the areas of health, human development, food security and climate change.
Ms. Sara Paul commended the Sudanese Government’s cooperation with the programme, stressing that the two sides were working as partners and were eager to support development projects during the transition period at all economic and social levels, stressing that most of them were not interrupted despite the challenges encountered and providing an indication of the scope of the work of the programme’s regional office for Arab States, notably the achievement of peace and stability, democratization, the promotion of women’s role and opportunities for youth employment and capacity-building.
This is the first high-level visit of its kind in the framework of developing UNDP’s work in the Sudan and agreeing on the contours of the next phase.
