Water Authority of Khartoum State has condemned the rebels’ targeting of drinking water facilities
The Water Authority of Khartoum State has condemned the rebels’ targeting of drinking water facilities in a statement issued today.
The authority denounced the occupation of the Soba water station by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) and the arrest of its workers. It also noted the occupation of the Mokran water station by the same group yesterday, as well as the Burri and Beit Al Mal water stations earlier.
This means that four major stations that supply wide areas of Khartoum State have stopped working. The authority and the Sudanese Electricity Distribution Company have failed so far to enter the Mokran water station to carry out maintenance work on the electricity supply.
Most of the citizens who left the Bahri locality did so because of the water shortage. Despite all ceasefire agreements stipulating the withdrawal of the RSF from water stations, they continued to occupy them and endanger their workers’ lives. Drinking water facilities in Khartoum State remain targets for rebel occupation and the arrest of their workers, leading to a worsening of an already dire situation for citizens.
