Al-Burhan receives John Godfrey’s credentials as United States Ambassador to the Sudan
The President of the Transitional Sovereign Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, welcomed the appointment of the United States of America as its Ambassador to the Sudan after a 25-year break.
Upon receiving the credentials of the new Ambassador of the United States of America to the Sudan, Ambassador John Godfrey stressed the importance of developing relations between Khartoum and Washington and hoped that his appointment would be a new impetus for the course of the relationship between the two countries.
Ambassador Godfrey stated in a press statement that his accreditation as his country’s ambassador to the Sudan following the upgrading of diplomatic representation between the two countries after a 25-year vacuum underscores the commitment of the United States to strengthening and deepening its relations with the Sudanese people.
In the near term, he expected a new civilian-led Government in the Sudan within the context of an inclusive national dialogue involving all Sudanese parties.
Ambassador Godfrey expressed his great pleasure at working in the Sudan and considered it an opportunity to learn about the Sudanese people and better understand their culture.
