The Vice-President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, General Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, met with the Republican Palace and the delegation of the European Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee.
The Chairman of the Committee, David McLester, confirmed in a press statement that the European Union stood with the Sudanese people to realize their aspirations for democracy by forming their own civilian government.
He welcomed the army’s decision to withdraw from the political process and reaffirmed the European Union’s support for the efforts of the tripartite mechanism to help bridge differences and facilitate the restoration of democratic transition, noting that all actors should begin to build the political process.
The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the European Parliament noted the importance of initiating the transitional justice process and bringing to justice all those who committed human rights violations through the Government’s cooperation with the International Criminal Court.
Any delay in the agreement and addressing the political crisis would worsen the economy and the humanitarian situation throughout the country and add to the challenges faced by the Sudanese people.
