The Arab Organization participates in meetings of Arab climate negotiators in Muscat
The Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD) participates in the meetings of the fifteenth session of Arab climate negotiators held in the Omani capital Muscat from 4 to 6 October 2022.
The programme for the first day of this meeting included the presentation by the organization’s delegation of the “First Consolidated Arab Report on Arab States’ Efforts to Implement the Paris Climate Agreement”, which was recently finalized.
The present report provides a detailed account of the efforts made by the Arab States in fulfilling their commitments under this Agreement. It also shows the impact of the climate change phenomenon on the agricultural sector in the Arab States and provides a set of proposals and actions to be taken to adapt the sector to this phenomenon.
In his intervention to participants representing Arab States and some United Nations organizations, the representative of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development stressed that the twenty-sixth Conference of the Parties to the Climate Agreement, to be held by the Arab Republic of Egypt next month, would see an Arab-African ministerial meeting on agriculture and climate convened at the Organization’s initiative and would produce outcomes aimed at mobilizing additional financial resources and obtaining environmentally appropriate technology to enable the region’s agricultural sector to adapt.
In concluding the presentation, participants expressed appreciation for the increasing role played by the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development in addressing environmental issues in the region, whether they relate to neutralizing land degradation, protecting biodiversity or climate change.
