France renews the contract of its national coach until 2026

Didier Deschamps extended his contract as coach of France’s national team until June 2026 and is expected to remain as coach of his country’s fourth World Cup team.

Deschamps led France to the 2018 World Cup and 2022 final in Qatar, which they lost to Argentina.

Since taking charge of the team in 2012, the 54-year-old former Chelsea midfielder has also reached the quarter-finals of the 2014 World Cup and the Euro 2016 final.

Deschamps won 89 victories and drew 28 meetings and lost 22 of the 139 games played by a French coach.

The French Football Federation said assistant coach Guy Stefan, goalkeeping coach Frank Raviot and physical coach Cyril Moine would also remain in their positions in the national team.

Deschamps, who also won the World Cup as a player in 1998, helped France win the Nations League in 2021.

His most recent contract was signed in December 2019 and led the French national team until the end of the 2022 World Cup.

The French team, led by Deschamps, are now preparing to take part in the Euro 2024 finals in Germany before the focus shifts on qualifying preparations for the 2026 World Cup to be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico in June 2026.
