Saudi Arabia hosts Asian Basketball Cup 2025
Saudi Basketball Association announced the hosting of the 2025 Asian Men’s Basketball Cup in Jeddah.
It will be the second time Saudi Arabia has hosted this major continental event, the last time the Asian Cup was played in the Kingdom in 1997 in the capital Riyadh, during which Korea was crowned the Cup after beating Japan 78-76 in the final.
The Saudi basketball team reached the first semi-final ever as well, finishing fourth.
For his part, Mr. Hagub Khajarian, Executive Director of the Asian Office of the International Basketball Federation, said that “construction will be in two exciting years for basketball in the Kingdom, especially given the development in the country over the past years.”
“The return of the Asian Basketball Cup to Saudi Arabia for the first time in nearly three decades symbolizes the Kingdom’s commitment to the growth of basketball and its passion for sport.”
He added: “It is also clear to see this in the steps they have taken recently in their program we expect a great event that not only showcases the best of the Asian Cup but also highlights the wonderful journey of Saudi Arabia.”
Mr. Ghassan Tashkandi, President of the Saudi Basketball Federation, said that “hosting the prestigious Asian basketball event in the Kingdom is an extension of international events organized by Saudi Arabia in various aspects and sectors.”
He added: “We in the Kingdom firmly believe that hosting prestigious sporting events such as the Asian Basketball Cup provides us with an opportunity to grow sports in the Kingdom and showcase our basketball ambitions for the future.”
This brings Asia’s main event back to the Gulf due to the continued growth of basketball in the region.
