IGAD celebrates the 37 anniversary of its founding

The Government Authority for Development celebrated today’s 37th anniversary on this day in 1986.

In 1991, IGAD became the Intergovernmental Authority for Development (IGAD) with the extension of the mandate to include peace, security and economic cooperation.

Membership has also expanded to include both Eritrea and South Sudan.
