Sudan, Egypt agree to accelerate implementation of water projects
The Sudanese Acting Minister of Irrigation and Water Resources, Engineer Dhual-Bait Abdul-Rahman Mansour and his Egyptian counterpart, Dr. Hani Swailem, have agreed to remove all obstacles facing implementation of water projects carried out by the Permanent Joint Technical Commission for Nile Waters in the two countries.
In the presence of the Egyptian ambassador to Sudan, Hani Salah El-Din and members of the joint commission, Engineer Mansour held talks with his Egyptian counterpart, Dr. Swailem, focusing on ways of cooperation and joint action in the field of water resources.
Engineer Mansour affirmed that the visit of his Egyptian counterpart was successful and fruitful, pointing out that the two sides underscored importance of supporting the joint commission and focusing on implementing the projects it undertakes.
He explained that the meeting discussed the issue of increasing water hyacinth in the Nile, which begun to spread in an annoying way.
The discussions focused on necessity for supporting South Sudan technically and logistically.
For his part, the Egyptian Minister has said that his visit to Sudan comes to find ways of cooperation and joint action, pointing out that he assumed the duties of his ministry only four months ago, indicating that his visits will extend to the rest of the Nile Basin countries.
