Finance Minister meets Istanbul President of Islamic Development Bank
He met D. Djibril Ibrahim Mohamed, Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, His Excellency Mr. Mohammed Suleiman Al-Jasser, President of the Islamic Development Bank, Jeddah in the presence of Dr. Mohammed Bashar, Planning Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance, on the sidelines of the 39th meeting of the Permanent Committee of the Member States of the Organization of the Islamic Conference, which is currently taking place from 2 to 5 December in Istanbul, Turkey.
The meeting touched on issues of mutual interest and the issues of addressing commitments and arrears on the Sudan. It also touched on the possibility of excluding certain projects and returning them to work in order to take into account the circumstances of the war in the country, especially those that are nearing completion in safe areas, such as the Qadarif Water Project, which represents an urgent need for citizens.
On the other hand, the meeting discussed the issue of accelerating the Bank’s humanitarian aid through third parties such as the Red Cross.
In conclusion, the Meeting ensured the importance of cooperation and coordination and worked to strengthen relationships to achieve mutual benefits.
It is worth mentioning that the Islamic Development Bank is currently funding the Sudan with a portfolio of more than $500 million for some 14 vital projects in a large number of states covering health, water, electricity, agriculture and various service projects for the development of Darfur.
