Netanyahu conceded in the hope of normalization with Saudi Arabia
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will suspend plans to annex parts of the West Bank in exchange for a normalization deal with Saudi Arabia, Hebrei newspaper revealed.
Partners in Netanyahu’s right-wing bloc said they “will not stand in the way of normalization efforts with the Saudis” according to Israeli newspaper Yediot Ahronot.
Netanyahu promised to strengthen annexation policies in the West Bank as part of his coalition agreement with the Zionist Religious Party, which has not yet been published or finalized, but referred to what he described as “the need for some kind of concession by Israel so that the Saudis feel free to move towards normalization.”
Israeli settlement in the Palestinian territories has expanded in Netanyahu’s previous governments and normalization agreements with 4 Arabs have been signed within the framework of the 2020 Ibrahim Agreement.
