Head of OHCHR Dr. Rafat Merghani welcomes Volker Turk

President of the National Commission for Human Rights Dr. Rafat Merghani Abbas Al-Amin welcomed the visit of the High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Türk to the Sudan who visits Kaul State after appointment.

The President of the National Commission for Human Rights said in a press statement following his meeting with the High Commissioner for Human Rights that we deliberated in general on the situation of human rights in the Sudan and I am keen to address information and details about the Office’s work.

Volker Türk stressed his desire for this institution’s work to be independent in accordance with the 1993 Paris Principles.

The meeting also addressed issues related to civil, economic, social and cultural rights and all matters relating to the situation of human rights in the Sudan. The meeting discussed what is associated with UNHCR as a national institution and how it operates and follows up on the human rights situation and cooperates with the authorities and stakeholders.
