New developments in Jeddah’s discussions on the situation in the Sudan
Sources told Al Arabiya that the Jeddah Committee for Dialogue between the Army and Rapid Support has identified 10 days to implement confidence-building measures.
In the light of the “Jeddah Declaration on the Protection of Civilians in the Sudan” (issued on 11 May 2023), the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces are committed to the following commitments:
1. Engage in a joint humanitarian mechanism led by the Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs of the United Nations to address the obstacles to the delivery of relief assistance.
2. Identify focal points to facilitate the passage and transit of humanitarian and aid personnel.
3. Implementation of confidence-building procedures with regard to:
A. Establishment of a communication mechanism between the commanders of the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces.
B. Detention of prison fugitives.
Improve both parties’ media content and reduce media language.
C. Take action against escalating and conflict-fuelling parties.
These procedures shall be implemented in parallel.
