Sudan’s Minister of Defence examines with UN official the outstanding files with the state of South Sudan

The Minister of Defence, Lieutenant General Yasin Ibrahim Yassin, discussed with the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations for Peacekeeping Operations, Jean-Pierre Lacroix, issues relating to the mandate of UNICEF forces in Abyei and the common border between the Sudan and the State of Southern Sudan, and emphasized the Sudan’s commitment to provide facilities for the implementation of its mission.

The Minister of Defence welcomed the visit of the Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations to the Sudan and affirmed the Sudan’s readiness to continue its support for the efforts of UNMIS. The Minister of Defence also appreciated the efforts of UNMIS to achieve security and stability between the communities of the Abyei Area and the Sudan-South Sudan border.

The Assistant Secretary-General of the United Nations for Peacekeeping Operations will depart to head the UNICEF mission in Abyei for two days.
