The Minister for Foreign Affairs chairs the OIC Coordination Meeting

The Foreign Minister-designate, Ambassador Ali Sadik Ali, headed the delegation of the Sudan participating in the coordination meeting of the OIC member States.

Under the chairmanship of Mr. Belawal Bhutto, Minister for Foreign Affairs of Pakistan, and the presence of the Secretary-General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), who took place on the sidelines of the 77th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

The meeting addressed the issues and challenges facing the Organization’s member States, in particular national security and the independence and sovereignty of States over their territories. The meeting also addressed the importance of promoting the principles of peace, justice, equality and combating violent extremism.

Member States stressed the utmost efforts and coordination with other United Nations Member States to combat serious phenomena of Islamophobia, intolerance, discrimination and xenophobia.

The meeting dealt with developments in the Palestinian issue as the central issue of Islamic States and reaffirmed the two-State solution and the establishment of a Palestinian State on the 1967 borders.

In its statement, the Sudan reaffirmed its position in support of the Palestinian people’s right to establish an independent State with Al-Quds Al-Sharif as its capital.

The statement touched upon developments in some of the brotherly Arab countries and stressed the Sudan’s support for their security and stability. It called on the Sudan to make every effort to combat extremism and the phenomenon of xenophobia and Islamophobia.

The Sudan’s statement addressed climate issues and environmental threats related to drought, desertification and floods and the need to strengthen efforts to address these challenges for all.
