The President of the Sovereign Council meets the European Union’s envoy for the Horn of africa

The President of the Sovereign Council met with General Abdul Fatah al-Burhan, envoy of the European Union for the Horn of Africa, Annette Weber.

The meeting stressed the importance of reaching a national consensus as soon as possible to avoid the risks involved.

The President of the Sovereign Council stressed the need to sit down the country’s political components in order to find solutions.

He noted the need to achieve consensus among political forces in order to stabilize the transition period.

Stressing the military’s withdrawal from the political process and that its work should be limited to national security and defence issues.

For its part, the European Envoy affirmed her eagerness to reach out to all political forces to push them towards consensus without bias towards either side, with a view to speeding up a consensus leading to the formation of a civilian government to manage the remainder of the transitional period and prepare for free and fair elections.
