United Nations envoy commends Sudan’s efforts to achieve peace in South Sudan
Lieutenant General Yassin Ibrahim Yassin, Minister of Defence in charge of receiving today, Mr. Nicholas Haytham, Special Envoy of the Secretary-General of the United Nations for Southern Sudan, stressed the importance of the historical zeitgeist relations in their military and defence aspects between the Sudan and South Sudan and its lofty purpose of maintaining security and stability in the two fraternal countries and ensuring the completion of peace and stability.
The Minister of Defence recalled the role of the Sudan as President of IGAD in achieving security and stability in South Sudan and the importance of concerted regional and international efforts to sustain stability in the Republic of South Sudan within the framework of the extension of the implementation of the Conflict Settlement Agreement and the relevant road map and the central role of UNMISS in urging international donors and supporters to support the implementation of the Convention.
For his part, the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for Southern Sudan paid tribute to Sudan’s stabilization efforts in Southern Sudan and thanked what had been done in the area of the consolidation of force command as well as in the advancement of the peace process and the graduation of the first batch of unified forces.
The Minister of Defence thanked the United Nations envoy to South Sudan and said that the Sudan would spare no effort to promote stability in South Sudan because it was an integral part of Sudan’s stability.
