FAO: Records a visit to Al-Dawaf and Al-Barkak projects in the Northern State

A delegation from the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) in Sudan headed by the Resident Representative of FAO, Babaqana Ahmadu, accompanied by the Director General of the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources of the Northern State, Eng. Hussein Abdelghafour, and the Director of the Project on Building Climate Change in the Northern Sector.

The delegation inspected the projects of puppets, agricultural slaves and the Verma Civilization Complex. The organization’s delegation also met with a number of members of the Palm Peasants Association, farmers and owners of small palm associations.

Models of palm farming machinery previously provided by FAO Farmers were presented along with models of different dates of high quality.

In a press release, the Director-General of the Northern State Ministry of Production and Economic Resources commended the results of the FAO delegation’s visit to the state and affirmed that the FAO delegation announced its support and assistance for the development of the plant and animal sectors and the support of small associations, especially in the field of dates, and the need to take advantage of palm residues in the fields of feed, fertilizer and furniture.

Ensuring continuous hygiene to avoid palm fires, he noted that the delegation had called for a full survey of palm fires and the implications so that the organization could support those affected.

For his part, the project manager for building resilience with climate changes in the agricultural and pastoral sector stressed that the visit was successful and fruitful and opened up more cooperation prospects between the northern state and the FAO delegation to contribute to the development of the agricultural sector and serve the issues of date producers and noted that the next period will see the implementation of many projects by FAO in the northern state.
